Routines
1. Along the Spots
Spot the yellow and green.
Playing from the brown spot each time, strike the cue-ball up and down the table between the yellow and green. Award a point for each cushion struck (max 4 points). Have six goes and total the points achieved
Ronnie recommends hitting the cue-ball below centre.
Record best score achieved | Maximum score is 24
2. The 105
Spot the pink and black.
With the cue-ball placed for the first shot only, clear pink and black. Provided no shots are missed, continue adding a colour until a full colours clearance is made.
Ronnie recommends using a cushion to get from brown to blue.
Record best score achieved | Maximum score is 105
3. Colours Safety with Bonus Red
Evenly line the colours in order between blue and black spots and put a red on the centre of the baulk cushion as shown.
With the cue-ball played from behind the baulk line each time, clip each colour in sequence and return the cue-ball back behind the baulk line. For the shot to count some part of the cue-ball must come back to rest behind the baulk line and the colour played must stay in the top half of the table. Award 10 bonus points if red contacted!
Six-times world champion Ray Reardon helped Ronnie improve his safety play.
Record best score achieved | Maximum score is 87
4. 10 Reds, 10 Blacks
As shown, spot the black and position a red halfway between the pink and black spots.
Placing the cue-ball behind the red to start, pot 10 reds and 10 blacks in sequence. The red and the black are replaced after being potted.
Providing it’s available, Ronnie sees the black as the best colour to play for with the other colours being a backup.
Record best score achieved | Maximum score is 80
5. Pots Twenty-One
Line all the balls across the middle of the table as shown.
With the cue-ball played from the baulk line, stun pot each ball into its nearest top corner pocket. Award 3 points for a pot and 1 point for a missed pot provided the missed ball doesn’t come into the baulk half of the table.
Ronnie likes this routine for improving ball striking and being able to play lots of distance shots in a short time.
Record best score achieved | Maximum score is 63
6. Rest or Opposite Hand Clearance
Line the colours between the pink and black spots.
Starting with the yellow, pot the colours in sequence using the rest or opposite hand.
Ronnie says he began playing with his opposite hand to regain the feeling he enjoyed when he first started playing snooker. But he’s a very good rest player too!
Record best score achieved | Maximum score is 27
7. Cannons in Order
Line colours and arrange 15 reds on the table as shown.
With a red potted from the black spot each time, cannon the colours in order. If shot made, take cannoned colour off the table and put next red on the black spot.
Ronnie has the reds close by to maximise practice time.
When all cannons have been made or the reds have run out, sum colours cannoned with any reds left.
Record best score achieved | Maximum score is 36
8. The Snake
Spot the colours and position the fifteen reds as shown.
With the cue-ball placed for the first shot only, clear the table.
Ronnie likes practising letter shaped line ups.
Record best score achieved | Maximum score is 147
